Homemade Egg Nog

My uncle Wes treated us to a batch of homemade egg nog over the holidays.  This is a family recipe.  The ingredients are simple.  The only difficult part is lots of stirring!

INGREDIENTS:

          1 dozen  eggs
1 gallon  milk
1 cup      sugar
2 tsps     vanilla
1 cup      whiskey if desired (Bourbon or even rum can be used)*

ASSEMBLY:

·        Beat eggs well
·        Add milk and sugar
·        Cook in a double boiler or carefully on direct heat
·        Stir carefully 30 minutes – 1 hour until mixture coats the spoon.
·        Immediately set pan in sink of ice-cold water to stop the cooking
·        Stir 5 minutes
·        Add vanilla and whiskey
·        Refrigerate
·        Serve with dash of freshly grated nutmeg

*Note:  Whiskey/Bourbon/Rum can be added to individual servings
