Buttercream Frosting


I tried making some homemade icing for Grace's birthday last week.  It was tasty and very easy!  This is from the Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book.

3/4 c butter, softened
2 lbs powdered sugar (8 cups)
1/3 cup milk
2 t vanilla

Beat butter with mixer til smooth.  Gradually add 2 cups of powdered sugar, beating well.  Beat in 1/3 cup milk and vanilla.  Beat in additional milk to reach spreading consistency.  (I had to add a little more than called for to get the right texture.)  This will frost a 2 layer cake.

To make it a chocolate frosting:  beat in 1/2 cup cocoa powder into butter before adding sugar.
