Easy Chili

For years, I have used the "3-Alarm" spice packets to make chili.  It is a really easy way to whip up a pot of chili.  But I decided to give homemade chili a try this weekend.  This recipe was super quick and simple, definitely easy enough for a weeknight meal.

Credit goes to Michael for plating up a photo-ready bowl of chili!  He could be a food stylist!

This recipe for chili is based on my handy Better Homes and Garden cookbook.  I love it because it has all the "basic" recipes you might need when you don't have something from your Pinterest board!

Here you go...

1 1/2 lbs. ground meat (I used a mix of turkey and beef)
1 large onion (or 2 small)
4 cloves minced garlic (I added a little extra)
2 15oz cans of beans, rinced and drained (kidney, pinto, or black beans)
2 14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes, undrained
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
1 cup water
2 T chili powder
1 t cumin
1 t basil
Salt and pepper
Red (cayenne) pepper if you like extra heat

In a large dutch oven, cook meat, onion and garlic.  Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
